Utilizing its considerable marketing power Breitling recently went beyond using them only to promote their line-up of watches, as they teamed up with Qhubeka. This charity based in South Africa and whose name means ‘to move forward’, helps people in communities where there are no to very little transportation options, by providing them with bicycles.
Breitling’s aim is to donate 500 bicycles through the ‘Coronation Double Century.’ This is a bicycle race in Swellendam, South Africa that takes place at the end of November this year and will also be the first mission for Breitling’s Triathlon Squad. However, the core team made up by Jan Frodeno, Chris “Macca” McCormack, and Daniela Ryf will be joined by seven-time world champion Swiss mountain biker and multiple Olympic medalist Nino Schurter and Ironman champion and duathlon specialist Ronnie Schildknecht, as well as Breitlings CEO Georges Kern.
Their efforts will raise not only the money to get more people mobile through the bicycles donated to Qhubeka but also awareness for this worthy cause. It is a worthy continuation of the legacy that Breitling has in the world of cycling, which started in the 1950’s when the brand served as the timekeeper at some of the most challenging and prestigious cycling competitions in the world.
